Job Title: Administration Assistant – 1 Position

Organisation: Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA)

Location:  Kampala


Reporting To: Promotion and Training Officer

Job Purpose: Provide administrative and logistical support in the activity implementation for the Coffee Centre of Excellence.

Key Result Areas

            Provide administrative support in promotion and training activities at the COE.

            Draft and produce standard documents such as letters, reports and presentations as per Staff’s requests, and prepare written responses to routine enquiries.

            Provide support in the maintenance of visitors’ centre, updating of information, and dissemination of information to visitors.

            Receive and direct visitors to the COE, screen telephone calls, direct callers to appropriate persons / Offices and provide information about COE activities in case of inquiries.

            Perform routine data entries at the Centre and handle requests for information and data.

            Schedule and coordinate meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements for COE staff.

            Maintain office supply inventories and coordinate maintenance of Office equipment.

            Maintain an electronic and hard copy filing system for the Centre of Excellence.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience;

            Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, or equivalent qualifications.

            At least 2 years working experience in a similar position.

Expected personal competences and skills

The successful applicants must have; 1. Good written and verbal communication skills; 2. Planning and organizing skills; 3. Computer skills and knowledge of relevant software. 4. Accuracy and ability to pay attention to detail; 5. Customer service orientation and teamwork.

Conditions of Service

The selected candidate will be contracted for three (3) years.  The successful applicant will be based at the national COE in Kampala.

Agricultural Research Officers at Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA)



Job Title: Agricultural Research Officers – 3 Positions

Organisation: Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA)

Location:  Kampala


Reporting To: COE Coordinator

Key Result Areas

  • Conduct applied research on coffee value chain technologies, processing, agronomic practices and post-harvest processing aimed at improving quality and cost of production.

  • Develop and promote innovations in agronomy, processing and harvesting and integrate them together with best agricultural practices and best processing practices.

  • Conduct trainings, farm demonstrations and sensitizations on coffee quality at the farm.

  • Liaise with the Quality assurance Officers and researchers in sample collection at the farms, and organizing of on-farm trials and other demonstrations.

  • Assist in the identification of high quality coffee lots and producers in order to achieve good quality certification and ensure traceability.

  • Carry out surveillance and give technical guidance on identification, prevention and control of pests and diseases.

  • Document research findings and prepare research briefs for consideration by COE Committees, UCDA Management and other stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience;

  • Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, OR equivalent qualifications.

  • At least 2 years working experience in agricultural research or agronomy.

Expected personal competences and skills

The successful applicants must have; 1. Research skills; 2. Strong interpersonal and team working skills;  3. Good report writing and communication skills; 4. Good training skills; 5. Computer skills. 6. Readiness to work upcountry.

Conditions of Service

The selected candidates will be contracted for three (3) years.  One (1) of the successful applicants will be based the national COE in Kampala and the other two (2) will be based at the upcountry Regional Centers of Excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the programme/ cluster staff and maintain high quality, accurate and reliable financial information.
  • Assist in developing programme/ADP/cluster budgets in compliance with the programme’s/ cluster/ADPs’ Plan of Action and log frames.
  • Prepare and file supporting documents for all accounting transactions in compliance with WVU financial guidelines and manual.
  • Prepare and maintain books of accounts in compliance with WVU policies.
  • Prepare and participate in discussion of the financial report with programme/ADP team.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required

  • A university degree, with a major in Accounting/Finance/Auditing and/or a full professional qualification in A.C.C.A, CPA, CA, CIA or CMA or equivalent.

  • A minimum of two years’ post qualification experience.

  • Extensive Computer knowledge in Microsoft Excel, Vision Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SUN Accounting and Access is required.

  • Must have proven knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Internal Control Procedures.

  • Written and Oral Communication skills are essential, and the incumbent must be a team builder, who is able to work successfully in a multicultural environment.

  • A high level of integrity is required.

  • Post Graduate training in capacity building, net working and monitoring & evaluation will be an added advantage.

  • Preferably a minimum of 3 years working experience in an NGO sector (Directly facilitating capacity building  and partnerships at a field level)
