Job Title: Database Programmer

A database programmer is required to work with databases
primarily on studies within the Co-Infections Study Programme and will involve
developing a Good Clinical Practice (GPC) compliant database for a new clinical
trial and also developing data dictionaries for existing databases. The work
will be based in Entebbe ,
and is funded by a grant from the IDEA consortium, an African-European
Initiative for Dissecting the Interplay between Poverty Related Diseases and
Helminth Infections. Appointment will be for one year initially and is
renewable subject to the satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
Duties and responsibilities: The work will involve creating data dictionaries
for existing databases and setting up a GCP compliant database for a forthcoming
trial to investigate the effect of Schistosoma mansoni infection on the
immunogenicity of a candidate TB vaccine. The successful applicant will join a
team Statisticians and Data Managers at the MRC Unit in the Uganda Virus
Research Institute.
Qualifications and
experience: Essential
- An honours degree in Computer Science, Database programming, Software engineering, Statistics and Computation or a related field
- 3 years’ experience in programming using in more than one language (MS-Access VBA, Java or .Net languages)
- 3 years’ experience working with at least one database management system (Ms Access, My SQL or SQL server).
- 1 year’s experiencing in creating and managing databases in a research environment
- Experience in the programming of electronic data capture using either UMPCs or PDAs
Desirable
• MSc in
Information Systems or related field
• Experience in the
use of Open Clinica or other GCP compliant databases
