Minimum Qualifications
  
  • MBChB degree.
  • Master of Medicine or Public Health degree from a recognized Institution

Professional Requirements
Registered with relevant professional bodies.

Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Leadership
  • Provide leadership in coordination of medical and administrative policies of the Makerere University Health Services Staff.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement all aspects of educational and research activities of the medical staff.
  • Coordinate the functioning of the medical staff and assist in the implementation and enforcement of the University Health Services policies, rules and regulations of the medical staff.
  • Act as an advisor on health issues to Staff Welfare, Development and Retirement Committee in all professional matters of the University Health Services.    
Physician Leadership
  • Ensure that patients have appropriate physician coverage and ensure the provision of physician and health care practitioner services.
  • Provide specific guidance for physician performance expectations;
  • Ensure that a system is in place for monitoring the performance of health care practitioners.
  • Facilitate feedback to physicians and other health care practitioners on performance and practices.
Patient Care - Clinical Leadership
  • Coordinate the administrative decision-making and the development of policies and procedures related to patient care;
  • Develop, approve, and implement specific clinical practices for the facility to incorporate into its care-related policies and procedures,
  • Review, consider and/or act upon consultant recommendations, as appropriate, that affect the facility's resident care policies and procedures or the care of an individual resident; and
  • Review policies and procedures regarding the adequate protection of patients' rights, advance care planning, and other ethical issues.
Quality of Care
  • Establish systems and methods for reviewing the quality and appropriateness of clinical care and other health-related services and provide appropriate feedback; and
  • Participate in the facility's quality improvement process;
  • Help the facility provide a safe and caring environment;
Education, Information, and Communication
  • Provide information to help the facility provide care consistent with current standards of practice.
  • Develop medical information and communication systems with staff, patients, and families and others;
  • Represent the facility to the professional and lay community on medical and patient care issues;
  • Establish appropriate relationships with other health care organization.

Required experience:
At least 10 (ten) years experience in a reputable Organization five (5) of which must have been at Senior Managerial Level.

Other Essential requirements:

Computer literate,
Team player with leadership skills.

Age Limit:       Applicants should not exceed 55 years of age.

Tenure of appointment: The appointment shall be for a contract of five years renewable subject to satisfactory performance following appraisal.
